it's like a 5-10 min exposure showing the rotation of the earth, that's how you get star trails. the longer the exposure, the longer the trails become.

be sure you've got a tripod, and a remote switch so you can take exposures over 30 sec. good luck man!

the long exposure captures the rotation of the earth, then you see the stars move across the sky. thanks for your comment man ;)

i think i read somewhere the max before the battery runs out is like 2hrs, but i've never tried it. the longest i've done was like 15-20 min

Thats a fantastic shot! Lovely setting (and what a funky power pole! =D) and nice sharp star trails. You also caught a satellite/meteor! =) Great shot!
